Woodcraft Trip to Flatholm 2008

Sept 26th - 28th

Flatholm from the air

21 children and adult leaders from Penarth Woodcraft Folk stayed on Flatholm Island, just a few miles by boat from Penarth but a world away from daily life. With the help of the Flatholm Project’s Wardens and resident pirates, the group learned about the Island ’s fascinating wildlife, interesting history, land management and sustainable energy projects.   Rob Curtis, the Education Warden, put together a varied range of activities over the two days.

On Saturday, the younger children hunted for treasure and built mini-rafts, while the over 11’s and adults carried out conservation work as part of the island’s land management programme.  On Sunday the children, working in teams, practiced outdoor survival skills.   Fortunately, the weather was sunny and warm!
